Vision Insurance

Annual eye exams, contact lenses and new glasses can be an expensive bill for a family every year. As we get older, our vision changes and not getting your eyes checked and keeping up with proper prescriptions can easily lead to headaches and decreasing vision. Keeping your eyes healthy is as important as getting a regular physical. There are different types of vision plans with different levels of coverage and allowances available, so you can easily find a plan with a monthly premium that easily fits within your monthly budget.

Two-thirds of American adults use some sort of corrective lenses.

If you’re among them, then vision coverage is essential. But even those who don’t currently wear glasses or struggle with eye problems may benefit from routine checkups. Eye exams can reveal other medical problems, and the older you get, the more frequently you should check in with an ophthalmologist. Vision benefits aren’t usually included in major medical plans, but you can buy them as standalone policies – with or without health insurance – or as part of a bundled package with dental benefits.

Vision coverage includes a number of benefits, including regular screenings for vision and eye health problems, a national network of participating providers, the choice to use any provider and still receive services, low copays for exams, and discounts on glasses or contacts (or a free pair of glasses or contacts depending on your plan allowance). For those with Medicare, which doesn’t include vision benefits, standalone vision policies are a good investment since these plans can be purchased at any age.

I spend all day looking at a computer screen and am constantly getting headaches and dry eyes. My optometrists prescribed me blue light filtering glasses and it has made a world of difference.
